There’s A Reason Change Feels So Hard— And It’s Not You

Even though our brains are incredibly complex, 95% of what we think, feel, and do is a direct result of our unconscious programming from early childhood. That’s why even when we have the best intentions, or tell ourselves that next time we’ll handle things differently, things don’t easily change. The unconscious mind takes precedence over the unconscious mind.

Without very intentional reprogramming, we’ll continue to revert back to our default behaviours naturally, automatically, and endlessly. The good news? Research shows that the unconscious mind is adaptable. But in order to change it, we must first access it. And the best way to access it is through guided hypnotherapy.

With an evidence-based and highly effective combination of cognitive behavioral therapy and hypnotherapy, cognitive behavioural hypnotherapy will help you access your unconscious thoughts, replace negative with positive programming, and start to adjust your default reactions in ways that will stick.

The Difference Between Cognitive Behavioural Therapy & Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT is a highly effective form of talk therapy based on the idea that our cognition, emotion, and behavior all interact together to produce negative thoughts and feelings, which can trap us in vicious cycles. It looks at your current problems, rather than your past traumas, and focuses on your ability to change how you think, feel, and behave in certain situations.

Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy (CBH)

CBH offers a personal and tailored approach to healing by integrating multiple therapeutic theories and approaches, including those of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. It identifies the root cause of your problems and tells us which coping mechanisms you’re using to deal with them. By providing tools for reprogramming your unconscious mind, it can allow you to finally overcome negative thought and behaviour patterns.

What To Expect With Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy

Individual Hypnotherapy Session

“The greatest change I have noticed is much more emotional balance. I have greater confidence in myself and less anxiety. I am more able to live in the present. I have a clearer instinct when I have decisions to make. My general outlook is positive now and I feel I have greater gratitude, joy, positive outlook, and excitement about life. I am much less reactive and I have learned to set healthy boundaries and have healthier relationships.”

Frequently Asked Questions About Relationship Counselling

No. This is a common misconception, but you can rest easy knowing it’s completely untrue. In reality, when you’re in a hypnotic state, you are actually in a hyper-attentive, conscious, and relaxed state— and you’re in full control of yourself. You’re capable of ignoring your hypnotist, and you can absolutely decide whether or not to explore what your hypnotist is suggesting.

No, hypnosis does not force you to go back to or relive negative experiences or trauma. In fact, it’s the opposite— hypnosis is very helpful for dealing with negative past experiences and trauma because it can help you reframe your negative memories in a more positive way.

You’ll relax in a quiet setting as I use a variety of suggestions and techniques to help you achieve a state of hypnosis. There will be constant communication between us as I actively assess whether the technique I’m using is the best one for you. Once you achieve the desired state, I’ll help connect you to a part of yourself that feels safe and resilient, so you can handle whatever arises without experiencing trauma. Then, we’ll tap into your unconscious mind (which doesn’t know the difference between real and imagined experiences) and start to reframe your issues in a positive way. Expect to feel refreshed, relaxed, and optimistic after your session.

Your initial, free consultation will be a telephone or online video appointment. Following that, you can choose between telephone, virtual, or in-person appointments at our clinic in North Vancouver.

If you have an extended health insurance plan with coverage for counselling services provided by a Registered Clinical Counsellor or a Certified Canadian Counsellor, then yes, you should be able to submit your invoices and be reimbursed by your insurance company for part or all of your appointment cost.
