Build Your Resilience & Better Manage Stress

Your brain is the sophisticated centre of your central nervous system, responsible for controlling the other systems in your body. It receives, processes, and stores information, and formulates appropriate situational responses.

But overtime, those responses can become rigid and repetitive, as if stuck on repeat. This rigidity can impede your ability to relax after work, fall asleep, stay focused and on-task, recover from arguments and emotional trauma, and break repetitive, negative thought patterns.

Neurofeedback trains the brain to be more flexible, allowing you to respond more appropriately to situations and return to your baseline quickly.

It builds your resilience, helps you better manage stress, and leads to lasting change.

Add Neurofeedback To Your Treatment Plan

We recommend neurofeedback training for anyone looking to overcome mental obstacles and achieve growth. It helps everyone from toddlers to seniors, business professionals to athletes, and parents to performers to:

  • Improve energy levels
  • Enhance focus and alertness
  • Change behaviours
  • Break bad habits
  • Better manage stress
  • Become more resilient
  • Improve memory
  • Overcome anxiety and depression

Neurofeedback is especially powerful when paired with hypnotherapy or self-hypnosis. Most find success adding one 45-minute neurofeedback session for every couple of appointments.

Individual in Neurofeedback Appointment

“I began neurofeedback just over a year ago, motivated by the goals of achieving greater energy, focus and creativity.

Several months in, the sessions were giving me such an emotional boost that I decided to taper down to a lower dose of antidepressants. I eventually tapered down to nothing and have been medication-free for four months.

I still get blue. I still get anxious. I still get irritable. However, none of life’s realities takes me down any more. I have developed resilience!”

Frequently Asked Questions About Neurofeedback

You’ll sit comfortably in a chair with tiny sensors on the sides of your head and your ears, which pick up the delicate electrical activity of your brain. I’ll take a baseline reading, and then your session begins. You’ll watch visuals of your reading on a TV screen (if you like), and as you do, there will be very brief pauses in the sound and image. Your brain uses these pauses to distinguish between efficient and less effective brain activity. The Neuroptimal® session itself takes 33 minutes, after which you’ll fill out a questionnaire about your experience and your recording will be saved. Total appointment time is 50 minutes, and you can expect to feel very relaxed both during and afterwards.

Neurofeedback measures your brain activity and provides real-time feedback about how your brain is reacting to different stimuli. This form of therapy work by telling your brain if it is changing too quickly or not quickly enough in response to what is being presented. Over time, this training allows your brain to be more resilient by being able to bounce back quicker from a stress state.

Many people start to notice changes — like feeling better rested, having a better outlook, and engaging more effectively in relationships — after just ten sessions, and most achieve their goals completely by 20 to 40 sessions. You can stop your sessions whenever you like, but the more training you do, the more flexible and resilient your brain will become.

Neurofeedback training is a learned task, just like learning to read. And, just like learning to read, it can’t be unlearned. You may get rusty, but the effects will stay with you in some capacity throughout your lifetime. If you feel your training slipping away from you, know that it’s easy to get back on track with just a few booster sessions. A previously trained brain responds and recovers quickly!

Neuroptimal is a unique Dynamical Neurofeedback™ system that’s completely non-invasive and non-directive, so it’s unmatched in both power and safety. Unlike other systems, it doesn’t “push” the brain in any direction or force the trainer to choose one or two frequencies and hope they “get it right,” which can lead to negative side effects or contradicting messages. Instead, it simply gives the brain information about itself and what it’s doing, and lets the brain decide for itself whether an increase or reduction is warranted.

All neurofeedback appointments must be done in-person in our North Vancouver office so you can be connected to the Neuroptimal® system.

If you have an extended health insurance plan with coverage for counselling services provided by a Registered Clinical Counsellor or a Certified Canadian Counsellor, then yes, you should be able to submit your invoices and be reimbursed by your insurance company for part or all of your appointment cost.
